Core Value #2: Excited about the Work of Evangelization

Some of our street evangelists

I am eager to preach the gospel … I am not ashamed of the gospel

Romans 1:15-16 NABRE

Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God, and God is reconciling the world to Himself in Him. This work of God is all-important to us — and therefore bringing people to Jesus is all-important to us. We fully believe in the mission of SPSE and see evangelization as urgent. For us, evangelization is not a hobby; we strive to make it our main mission in life, in accordance with the duties of our work and states of life (married, single, consecrated, ordained, etc.). We look for opportunities to evangelize. We tell others about the call to evangelize.

SPSE “Excited about the work of evangelization” Official description

We are excited about the urgent work of evangelization. The Good News is GOOD news! We believe in Jesus Christ. We have experienced His abundant love and we hope for every person in the world to share in that joy! To preach the gospel is a privilege because we get to pour God’s love into the hearts of those around us. And we are not alone! The Holy Spirit has equipped us with the joy and the strength to do so.

The work of evangelization is urgent. All around us, we see people suffering, battling doubt and pain, searching for fulfillment, wishing to feel loved and known. Jesus Christ is the answer to everything they are striving for. Our work is urgent because every person needs God. With a two-minute conversation, you can turn someone’s life around by pointing them to a God that will love, save, and take care of them.

St. Paul was not ashamed of the gospel. He spoke with bold authority and a genuine desire to lead others to Heaven. We are eager to follow in his example as disciples of Jesus on a mission to help save souls for Him. We are confident that God blesses every encounter — both the evangelist and the people evangelized. Through this important mission, God will transform hearts, raise saints, and heal the world.

Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve the Lord.

Romans 12:11 NRSVCE

How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy that we feel before our God because of you? Night and day we pray most earnestly that we may see you face to face and restore whatever is lacking in your faith.

1 Thessalonians 3:9-10 NRSVCE

Him we proclaim, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man mature in Christ. For this I toil, striving with all the energy which he mightily inspires within me.

Colossians 1:28-29 RSVCE

We wish to confirm once more that the task of evangelizing all people constitutes the essential mission of the Church. Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize.

Pope St. Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi, 14
